Total Loss Evaluation Help Nationwide

1 min read

I am James Carducci. I spent years as an insurance adjuster before starting Direct Salvage Network in 2021, which means I learned how these valuations are built from the inside.

Why the number comes in low

Carriers value totalled vehicles with automated tools. Those tools pull comparable listings that are frequently not comparable, miss trim levels and factory options, ignore recent work you paid for, and take no account of a vehicle's actual condition.

Nobody sits down and decides to underpay you. The system produces a low number by default, and it stays the number unless somebody challenges it.

The appraisal clause

Most auto policies contain a provision letting you dispute the carrier's valuation formally. Invoke it and you appoint your own appraiser. The insurer must then appoint an independent one at their own expense, and if the two cannot agree an umpire decides.

Most people have never heard of it. One client told me he only found out because a Reddit community suggested he call me before accepting defeat on his rolled GX470.

What the process has produced

A Tacoma owner who had negotiated on his own and been offered another hundred dollars went from $38,909 to $43,000. A branded-title vehicle the carrier had discounted heavily recovered over $6,000. Results depend entirely on the specific vehicle and the specific offer, but a low starting number is very common.

If they refuse the appraisal

It happens, and it is usually a delay tactic rather than a legal position. One client was refused for two weeks before his carrier honored the policy. Send me the paperwork and I will show you how to hold them to the contract.

No upfront cost

Consultation and review are free. I am paid only after you have been paid more. Call (732) 210-8418 or send your valuation report. I work nationwide.
